SEALANTS AND CERAMICS

FRA-BER GUIDES

WHAT ARE SEALANTS AND CERAMICS (NANOTECHNOLOGICAL SEALANTS)?

Innovacar by Fra-Ber sealants and ceramics are professional products that protect vehicles from atmospheric agents and create a high-performance water-repellent effect. These products can be water-based (SC0 Hydro Sealant) to provide high protection even from acid rain, or alcohol-based (SC1 Sealant) to simplify application.

The effectiveness of a sealant lasts up to 5 months, which can be increased up to 9 through proper pairing and maintenance using W1 Quick detailer and H20 Coat.

Ceramics, also called nanotechnological sealants, on the other hand allow users to achieve solutions that were unthinkable up until a few years ago, guaranteeing protection up to 60,000 km or 60 automatic washing cycles, but their application requires more experience and more time. The result, however, is definitely worth the wait.

WHEN DO YOU NEED TO USE SEALANTS AND CERAMICS?

Sealants and ceramics are used when you want to create a protective barrier that lasts much longer and is highly water repellent compared to the use of classic waxes with Carnauba. They are also used when you want to minimise the formation of residues and imperfections on the bodywork, giving more shine and making reflections brighter.

What’s more, all surfaces of our vehicles, however smooth they may appear, are actually pocked with endless pores, just like our skin. In this case, the action of a ceramic/nanotechnological product allows us to fill these cavities, obtaining a truly smooth surface, increasing solidity and performance.

HOW TO USE SEALANTS: WATER-BASED AND ALCOHOL-BASED SPRAY SEALANT WITH MICROFIBRE.

Innovacar water-based sealant (SC0 Hydro Sealant) is easier to use than standard ceramics on the market because it does not require special care during application and it dries very slowly, allowing anyone to achieve great performance. As it is water-based, it is also an excellent product after having applied a ceramic to preserve it from acid rain.

But how do you apply it? Before we fill you in on all the details, we’ll reveal that the secret to obtaining the best result is uniform application and careful buffing, so as not to leave traces of the product at the end of work.
Here is the step by step procedure:

  1. Prepare a clean microfibre cloth (Micron Up or Micron 2F) and 2-3 cloths for buffing and final finishing (Micron Buffing), to be replaced every time the cloth is soaked with product.
  2. Spray 2 doses of sealant on the Micro Up microfibre and two on the section to be treated, then slowly spread over the area, proceeding first vertically and then horizontally in about 40×40 cm sections.
  3. Wipe the surface again after 10 seconds with the Micron Buffing cloth or the long side of the Micron 2F microfibre, to even out application, removing any excess.
  4. In the event of excess products on the section, we suggest replacing the cloth or using D2 Check to remove excess in the first few minutes of application.
  5. Wait at least an hour (drying time) before using the vehicle and at least 7 hours (cure time) before washing it.

The alcohol-based sealant (SC1 Sealant) allows for application that is just as simple but quicker, thanks to lower drying times.

  1. Prepare a clean microfibre cloth (Micron Up or Micron 2F) and 2-3 cloths for buffing and final finishing (Micron Buffing), to be replaced every time the cloth is soaked with product.
  2. Proceed in about 40×40 cm sections. Spray 2 doses of sealant on the Micro Up microfibre and two on the section, then slowly spread over the area, proceeding first vertically and then horizontally so as to uniformly cover the surface.
  3. Wipe the surface again after 10 seconds with the Micron Buffing cloth or the long side of the Micron 2F microfibre, to even out application, removing any excess.
  4. In the event of excess products on the section, we suggest replacing the Microfibre cloth.
  5. Wait at least 1 hour (drying time) before using the vehicle and at least 7 hours (cure time) before washing it.

HOW TO USE SEALANTS: WATER-BASED AND ALCOHOL-BASED SPRAY SEALANT WITH MANUAL PAD.

Microfibre pads (Micron App) are the perfect solution for the application of glazes, waxes and sealants, thanks to the practical grip that makes it more immediate and safer.
To proceed:

  1. Identify the work surface. We suggest working in sections of about 40x40cm.
  2. Spray 3 doses of sealant on the manual Micron App applicator.
  3. Evenly distribute the sealant with slow movements, first vertically and then horizontally, lightly pressing. Repeat movement at least 3 times.
  4. Wipe the surface again after 10 seconds with the Micron Buffing cloth or the long side of the Micron 2F microfibre, to even out application.
  5. Wait at least 1 hour (drying time) before using the vehicle and at least 7 hours (cure time) before washing it.

HOW TO USE NANOTECHNOLOGICAL SEALANTS (CERAMICS)

Our Innovacar by Fra-Ber ceramics for professional detailers represent the maximum achievement in technology in the field of vehicle treatments, so much so that our certified detailers issue a guarantee of 60,000km or 60 wash cycles as a proof of our absolute trust in the duration of this type of innovative treatment.

But nanotechnology products are not just for professionals.
There are nanotechnological protective devices which, when applied correctly, are simple but high performance. Below is an example of the treatment, but it is always good to refer to the instructions provided with each of our ceramics.

Required material (if not already paired with the product):

To proceed:

  1. The Innovacar by Fra-Ber coating can be applied directly on all surfaces (coated) with clear coatings. The coated surface must be dry and free of any contamination or dust. It is therefore essential to wash, decontaminate, and if possibly polish with the greatest possible care.
We also recommend using D2 Check prior to application so as to eliminate all oil/filler residue and dirt from the surface. Use Micron Up microfibre cloths for this operation: proceed horizontally and then vertically, being careful during each step not to cover the previously worked areas.
Dry and refinish with the second cloth.
Caution: white or grey spots will appear when the ceramic is applied if there is residue present on the coating. To remove most contaminations safely after the coating has been polished by machine, we recommend washing the car with SP1 Prewash and S2 Foamy and waiting until the surface is completely dry.
  2. Pour approximately 5 drops of ceramic (do not exceed) on the Micron Suede cloth wrapped around the supplied Foam App Block applicator.
  3. Apply the product evenly over 40x40cm sections with crossed movements (“Criss-Cross” method), exerting light pressure until all the product is evenly distributed and only a few traces of residue are visible.
  4. Remove the ceramic residue with a soft microfibre cloth after no more than 20-30 seconds. The time necessary depends on climatic conditions: higher temperatures or higher humidity will shorten drying time and you will have to treat smaller areas at a time.
We recommend having 3 Micron Up cloths on hand: One for the first removal (after 20-30 seconds), the second to wipe over again for total cleaning of the treated panel, the third to be used for any small residue and finishing. When the first cloth is soaked, discard it and use a new one for final finishing.
  5. You can now apply another coating if necessary and if foreseen.
Caution: change the Micron Suede when you feel it is hardening or has traces of contamination on it.
  6. Let the ceramic dry on the surface for at least 12 hours (assuming an environmental temperature of 20°C) before letting it come into contact with water.
  7. Do not wash the vehicle for at least 72 hours. We recommend waiting 7 days.

The application of SC0 Hydro Sealant is recommended after 12 hours from the application of the Innovacar coating or upon first wash to obtain maximum performance.

MULTI-LAYER APPLICATION.

The application of multiple layers will not always increase the duration of sealant and ceramic protection. We recommend proceeding with the application of additional layers only where expressly indicated. In the event that this activity is necessary, we remind you that:

  1. It is always necessary to wait until the previously applied coat has completely dried. This phase is called Fast Cure or Drying, as indicated in the above paragraphs, is the phase during which the vehicle should not come into contact with water.
  2. Always also wait for the subsequent solidification step to be completed before washing the vehicle (as previously indicated, this phase is called Slow Cure or Cure). The timing of this phase can vary from 7 hours to 7 days, depending on the climatic conditions to which the vehicle is subject (outdoor and indoor temperature, humidity etc.).

HOW TO MAINTAIN THE EFFECTIVENESS OF YOUR TREATMENT.

Nanotechnological sealants and coatings are highly durable and do not require particular maintenance during their activity, besides following washing instructions carefully.
It is possible to increase the silky feel and gloss of these products through a coating booster such as H2O Coat or W1 Quick Detailer, to be applied after washing to fully maintain the aesthetic performance of its treatments.

Further details regarding the particularly careful maintenance of sealants and ceramics:

  1. Upon first wash, follow the cyclical Innovacar by Fra-Ber treatment:
First phase – double cleaning: with SP1 Prewash and S2 Foamy (or S1 Wash&Coat).
Second phase – after protection: having already applied the Innovacar by Fra-Ber coating, proceed with H20 Coat for water veil drying and, after the machine has dried, apply SC0 Hydro Sealant or SC1 Sealant, if not already been applied.
  2. For subsequent washes, repeat step 1 without reapplying SC1 or SC0, but use W1 Quick Detailer or Glossy after the machine has dried.
  3. At least once between the 3rd and 5th wash:
First phase – double cleaning: SP1 Prewash and then use the DS Scale shampoo to purify the surface and decontaminate it.
Second phase – proceeding with double protection, continue with H20 Coat for water veil drying. In this case, it is not necessary to reapply SC0 or SC1 having already been applied to the first wash, but instead use W1 Quick Detailer or Glossy for finishing.

Repeat the complete maintenance cycle from point 1 starting from the eighth washing or approximately every 4 months.

REPEATING APPLICATION.

In the case of sealants, it is important since they do not create “build-up” to reapply a new treatment before the previous one has completely vanished in order to guarantee continuous protection. Indicatively, we suggest reapplication upon the arrival of each new season (4 times a year) or after 6/8 washes.
Recommending precise and equal times for all cases is difficult as the factors affecting treatment duration are varied, ranging from the distance travelled to the weather conditions, coating preparation quality to the frequency of washing together with the type of shampoo used and, no less important, the place where the vehicle is stored (in the garage or outside).
